Now keep in mind this rumor has very little basis, but Torque News is reporting that the actual reason Toyota is collaborating with BMW on a sports car project is not in fact for a sports car but to get their hands on BMW's 2.0T engine. It seems the string of logic in their argument is that the NX will have a 2.0T and look at that BMW makes a 2.0T that they put in the X3.

Your second clue that Torque News is truly cracked comes when they reference Car and Driver as one of the best publications around, because of course C&D started this fangled rumor.

And there you have it, the auto journalists circle jerk executed to perfection...

YMMV http://www.torquenews.com/1083/will-lexus-new-nx-turbo-crossover-use-bmw-engine

oh yes but obviously were dreaming hehh... wasn't one of the big things about the nx concept when it debuted was that Toyota had developed their own turbo for this... I believed there were even patents filed or something...

Tough to say at this point. Both brands seem capable of doing this, but I think it's more likely of BMW doing this.
the thing to also keep in mind is there little sportscar joint venture. They may be building a sportscar together but the pieces going over both ways do not necessarily have to be exclusive to the sportscar program. For example BMW wants toyotas supercapacitor hybrid tech from their LeMans program, its feasible Toyota wants BMW's modern turbo knowledge...

yea you have that point

hopefully it makes it to other cars and not just the sports cars
And I think that this is the ultimate goal of their joint venture. Both companies make components the others want and its musch cheaper to aquire these technologies through trade than it is to develop them proprietary.

Clearly Toyota is one of the best in the game at Hybrids/EV's, feck they pretty much birthed the modern segment YEARs ago with the first prius. BMW does Turbos as well as anyone in the game, and I believe Toyota has been without a significant turbo program since the 2JZ was shelved over a decade ago...

i think tada san has stated they want to make their own turbo motor for use in other cars in the future

the motor we see in this NX could replace the V6 in the camry and might even go in the corolla one day

You never know

Might replace the IS250 engine.
