Why not? I mean the GLA has an AMG, the soon to be X4 will likely be getting an M derivative, Audi has trademarked Q4 and SQ4 so they will be present in the segment as well....

could it fly, would people buy it, is there a business case for it???

With the direction Lexus wants to go this is possible.
They already make the RX very sporty which could be a sign of something bigger going on in the future.
I just don't know what sort of powerplant they would go for. I mean Toyota/Lexus doesn't exactly have a small displacement hi-po engine just lying around. Unless they plan on boring out the 2.0T...

you're right they haven't caught onto the trend of the industry now, but with the NX, there just could be something new they have coming. not always do they use their same engines

thats true, what do you think they could use? I know them and BMW have a new agreement to build a sportscar together, I wonder if the agreement includes a powertrain that could be transferred?

I think that it would make sense for Lexus to create a NX F. Other companies are coming out with performance versions of their CUVs, so why wouldn't Lexus? As far as what engine they would use, I can't say. Does Lexus have any deals with other companies that they may be able to borrow an engine from?
