NX 200T trade in after 3 months?

After many months of planning I bought the NX 200T with luxury package and other options. I am thinking of trading it in because recently the windshield was damaged on highway. Glass I'm told is 3 weeks order. Basically due to the glass expense the glass company won't make much money on replacing and declined to do the job. I am concerned there is not much experience with replacing glass on this vehicle at this point and not comfortable it will be done correctly.

opinions welcome and thanks

funny enough, my windsheld was damaged on my x300h. mine was due to the windshield wipers missing a piece..but i have chips and scratches. im meeting with a lexus engineer on 5/4 and will update what thesay.
It seems extreme to trade in the vehicle because the wind shield broke. I'm sure there is a company that will replace the glass for you. Maybe if you contact your dealership they could point you in the right direction. Lexus customer service is usually great.

What part of your wipers was missing?
I think part of the PDI is to do something with the wipers, maybe it was something cause during that process.
If the glass company refuses to do the job than 1) the Lexus dealership should be notified and their dealership(s) no longer recommend or utilize them, and 2) your dealership should be stepping in to assist with locating an acceptable service provider.

I cannot fathom anyone wanting to trade in a vehicle after just three month because of a windshield issue. I hope you are able to find other options and can enjoy more time with your NX

I've never heard of a shop refusing to do the wind shield of a particular vehicle. How can the glass be so expensive that they can't make a profit? Something just sounds fishy.

Trading in your vehicle because of this is crazy in my opinion though. Besides anywhere you trade it in if you haven't fixed the wind shield, they will deduct the cost of fixing that from the money they give you. You may as well get it fixed anyway because of that.
was it mentioned what made the glass so expensive? I know some of the older 00 jags used to have their antennas embedded in the glass which really drove up the cost...
Lexus should be able to do it, might not be all dealers which I doubt but there should be at least some out there that can do it. A bigger and higher volume dealer would be it.
they were not clear. one person said the housing was cracked and the other said a part was missing.
Did you by any chance compare your wiper setup to that of another NX to see for yourself?
I know that's something i'd do in this case just to see for myself what exactly is missing.
Thanks. Yes I have calmed down and currently waiting to get glass replaced thru dealer recommended glass company.
Funny they have to outsource the glass installation.
You'd think they have techs that know how to do this.

Hopefully all goes well though, even after the whole process is complete.
This is an interesting thread. I too have windshield issues with my NX200T. It appears that some port workers were pretty aggressive in removing some markings in the upper left corner of the windshield and scratched it in several locations. My understanding is that there is a problem at the east coast (NJ) port and Lexus is working to replace the defective windshields. That is probably why there is a three week wait on windshields for the NX. I was just called today that my windshield was in and it has been on order for three weeks. My experience in the past is that Lexus usually delivers windshields in 2-3 days. And yes they are expensive, depending on the options your cars has (rain sensing wipers, NAV, Auto high beams).

@Capella can you confirm if your car also came out of the NJ port like @Rix08is?

That's ridiculous, reason why I almost always tell people to inspect their vehicle before taking delivery. Doing that and getting the issues taken care of their is so much easier than all the back and forth that you'd have to do after.
If the wind shields were damaged at the port then why should you have to pay for them?

Exactly, without question that should be an issue addressed, even more impressed at the fact it wasn't already addressed before.
Would be very interested how this whole port damage of the wind shields ends up. Please let me know if you have personal experience or read something in the news. I still don't understand why a customer would ever have to pay for damage that happened before they even received the vehicle.
Well, depending on how bad it is, it might get worse over time, spreading the crack and rendering the windshield unfit for public roads.
