Lexus Brand Vice President Mark Templin had a sit down with Drive Austraila and he dropped a few hints that new hybrid technology is on the way for Lexus...

Templin said about 80 per cent of Lexuses sold in western Europe are hybrids, similar to the percentage in Japan, where the desire for cutting edge technology is partially driving their popularity.

He added that Lexus was working on its next generation hybrid technology, which would raise the bar for the technology its parent company, Toyota, has made its own.

“There’s some technology that’s coming for hybrid in future that’s going to make it even more exciting,” he said, refusing to go into details. “You’ll have to wait and see.”

He said rather than a giant leap in hybrid technology it would be “consistent technological advancement”.
I'm not sure but he could be hinting to the new 2.5L Atkinson Cycle engine that they debuted in the NX concept first at Frankfurt. Although another avenue to explore is that Lexus may be looking at coupling its hybrid transmission with something other than a CVT. This could make it an even more attractive option for RC300h or even something in the performance range...

It seems like this technology won't be featured in the NX though. It is going to make it into a model a little further down the line. I am just guessing that based on the language that Mr. Templin is using. he is pretty vague on what this technological advancement is going to be though.

wait so lexus is going to invent new hybrid tech that will be better than toyota? but didn't toyota create it for them?
I think i read somewhere that they wanted to make the two brands more independent, not sure what their progress is on that.

I would assume when tit comes to lexus they would make their hybrid tech more performance focused.

its not that the two are going to drastically differ, if you read between the lines I believe what is being said here is that cutting edge technology developments will debut first on Lexus models and then trickle down to Toyota...
