For the third year in a row Lexus has ranked first in JD Power's 2014 US Vehicle Dependability Study. Lexus is followed by Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Acura, and Buick on the list. Dropping from the top five from last year are Toyota, Porsche and Lincoln.

The ranking is derived from October-December responses of 41,000 original owners of 2011 vehicles among 31 brands. It looks at issues and problems experienced during the past 12 months. Domestic cars have continued to gain ground on foreign brands, which have enjoyed a lead in dependability for years.

Great to know that Lexus makes dependable cars. I think the worst thing is buying a new vehicle and then having to take it back to the dealer for problems so soon.

Lexus builds bulletproof vehicles in terms of drivetrain

i know sometimes they have kind of scary electrical problems.. but its once in a blue moon :O

their vehicles as a whole are bulletproof. Still far better than a lot of luxury vehicles for the kind of things they offer.

Its nice to see some NA brands in the top five this year. I think that dependability is pretty high on people's list of priorities when buying a new car. If I can avoid needing to bring my car back in to deal with some issue that pops up, that means a lot to me.

So, good job Lexus!

not what shows up on a chart

I wont believe that a brand is reliable because someone told me

Look at the cars on the road. See which cars are still kicking that really shouldn't be

Ask around owner for how reliable their cars have been for them

You won't be surprised to find many Lexus/Toyotas in those 300k+ miles clubs.

Hearing it from someone familiar with a brand helps, but of course it helps even more to see it all on paper.

That;s true.
What ever info we come across we'll have to judge it with our knowledge and what we know could be practical and possible for the brand, but even then we could be off.
