Interesting bit of Trivia for you. What platform is under the NX?

RAV4 or CT200?

Easy right, its the RAV4 we all know that dummy ;)

WRONG.

Both answers are correct, turns out the platform itself is a hybrid, they basically hurled a CT and RAV4 at each other and used the remainder for the NX platform ;)

Both the turbocharged and hybrid models will be offered in front- or all-wheel drive. The NX, which goes on sale this fall, is derived from the Lexus CT platform with some Toyota RAV4 underpinnings.

That may not be something I am proud of. CT is based on Prius platform with IRS and some Yamaha extra bling. And my Prius (and to a slightly lesser extent CT) is **** noisy and unrefined! Not something I want to hear in a potentially $45k vehicle!

yea but WHATS noisy. If you can hear the frame flex and the suspension compress, sure thats an issue. But if we're talking road noise and engine noise, thats not the platforms fault. Its the skin...

Not exactly. A platform makes a whole lot of difference...for example, subframes to isolate bumps and noise. Thicker frame/unibody for better suspension tuning. Thicker floor plan for noise reduction. Suspension geometry for better tuning and isolation. Frame made to support thicker windshield/glass. Frame to support thicker insulation at frame level. Welding that is specific to a platform for stiffness. I am no engineer, but you get my point.

If "skin" is the only difference, then i can put on a ton of sound deadener to my Prius to make it as quiet as a Lexus LS, right? Nope...some folks on PriusChat tried that...a bit better, but still noisy as **** and ride still crap!

Remember, for the ES350 to be quiet, the Camry had to be quiet as well. You cannot make an ES350 silence from a Corolla platform!

Saying goes...you can take Britney out of Lousiana, but you cannot take Lousiana out of Britney. :D

Let me rephrase this...would you want a $45,000 luxury vehicle that has its roots from a Corolla or Prius?

Remember, a Camry platform is DIFFERENT than a Corolla platform.

you're talking about the sum of components not the actual frame. MY point being that they've smashed two vehicles together and only taken the best bits. Not to mention a ton of the CT's noise comes from its lousy CVT that refuses to move anywhere, and its ice smashingly stiff suspension. Again component noises...

But, technically speaking, RAV4 and Prius and CT and Corolla are all from the SAME platform.

You can only get so much luxury from a econobox platform. That's my point. If your point was true, then the Lexus ES can be as quiet and luxurious as the LS.

And you think that the NX 200t will be smoother than CT with its sports suspension? Do you think that the NX300h will be quieter with its CVT? (As far as i can tell, all Toyota CVTs in hybrids are from the same design...and as you can HEAR from the walk-around video recently, there is plenty of CVT drone on the NX300h!)

ahh ok

wow they reuse platforms like crazy..
Toyota only has a few platforms where everything arise from.

Camry platform: Avalon, Highlander (thus, Lexus RX), Venza, Sienna.

Corolla: Prius (thus, lexus CT), RAV4 (thus, NX).

4runner: Lexus GX, Sequoia

Land Cruiser: Lexus LX

Lexus IS and GS are alike i believe...at least, the current models...but this i am NOT sure about. Both are RWD platforms.

Lexus LS is its own platform i believe. RWD platform.

The last two (IS/GS, LS) are what makes Lexus superior to Acura in my opinion....

id imagine the camry rides much nicer
Exactly...and that is why i was disappointed with the associations with CT and RAV4. Granted, Lexus could surprise me...and i am hoping that.

My brother has a CT200h (2014)...and while nicer than my Prius, i am not sure that i would really call it a true Lexus vehicle in terms of luxury and ride. If that is what NX is, then i will pass on it. I am an old 39 year old...i need a luxurious ride for my bottom! :D
