The fastest Lexus NX that you can buy is the Lexus NX 200t F Sport. This model has a 2-liter turbocharged engine that produces 235 hp. That's nothing to complain about, but when you compare it to its main rivals, it is lagging a bit behind in terms of power.

The BMW X3 with xDrive35i delivers 305 hp, and the GLA45 AMG cranks out 355 hp. So if its power that you are looking for, the Lexus NX isn't going to be number one on your dream car list.

Takeaki Kato, Lexus NX chief engineer, wants to change that by introducing a new higher performance model -- an F model. The Lexus NX 200t's engine is tunable, which means that such a model is totally doable.

Well, it would be doable if it weren't for Lexus' rules around their F brand. Chief engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi explains that all F models need "to have the characteristics to be able to run on a track and a race course." That limitation basically rules out the potential for a Lexus NX F unfortunately.

A Lexus NX F would be out of place in the F lineup since every other F model uses a naturally aspirated V8, while the Lexus NX F would be running on a turbo charged 4-pot. All in the name of brand integrity.

Still, a more powerful Lexus NX is not out of the question, it just may not wear the F badge. With the potential to up the power of the NX pretty easily and the competition of rival models, let's cross our fingers that Lexus listens to Kato and gives us a even more powerful NX.

But we could see more power pumped out of the 200t

The 2.0-litre turbo] engine looks set to provide sparkling performance in the NX 200t, but an even more potent version has not been ruled out by Mr Kato – an amateur motor racer in his spare time.

He told GoAuto the four-cylinder engine had been designed for a variety of performance tunes in various applications across the Lexus range.

I'd love to see an NX version worthy of wearing the F badge as a true performance SUV, might not be something they make for some time but maybe it will be more likely to happen in the later half of the vehicles production cycle.

it's holding them back to an extent but then again you do have to remember they were never about this and are in the process of revamping the brand, just have to be patient, we'll see enough f models on the road eventually. Fortunately they've started with the most important F models
