With all the numbers from 2015 now tallied and recorded, Lexus has had its best sales year ever. Lexus sold approximately 652,000 units in 2015, which represents a 12% increase in sales over the brand's 2014 sales.
Lexus executives point towards the NX CUV and the RC coupe, both in their first full year of sales, as the driving force behind the brand's sales growth. Additionally, the redesigned ES, RX and LX models contributed greatly to the brand's 2015 sales.
Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin said of the brand's 2015 results:
Here's a look at the regional breakdown of Lexus' 2015 sales“2015 was an amazing year for Lexus International. In addition to the new and redesigned models in our stable, we began rolling out our most advanced vehicle safety portfolio – Lexus Safety System +, and began ES production in North America. Our entire vehicle line-up design has evolved to be more bold and emotional, and our brand initiatives are resonating as an extension of the Lexus ownership experience. We appreciate luxury consumers taking notice and honoring us with a fourth straight year of double digit percentage growth.”
North America was the most significant sales region for Lexus in terms of volume accounting for 368,000 units (up 12 percent). Second was China with around 88,500 sales (up 14 percent).
And some other interesting breakdowns
Lexus has also been seeing success with its hybrid models. Those accounted for 149,000 units of overall sales (23%).
Compared to the German luxury brands, Lexus still falls short of he competition in terms of volume, but the brand had one of the best year-over-year sales increases, beaten only by Mercedes-Benz. Lexus saw a 12% increase while Mercedes-Benz saw a 13% increase.
