I would assume that most here have an avid interest in the NX, and have most likely been doing research prior to the car's release. Has anyone else noticed that on the Lexus International site, the NX advertises one of the coolest features (IMO) for this car, a heads-up display? I was adamant that I wanted this feature and was completely prepared to incur the cost, but was advised by my dealer that this is a feature currently unavailable here in the U.S. I must admit, I was a bit heartbroken. Disappointed indeed, but certainly not enough to prevent me from purchasing an F-Sport on release day. It is available as a package feature on the Lexus Canada site, and many other countries from what I can tell. Does anyone have any insight as to why this is? I suspect that perhaps it is awaiting approval here in the states by the U.S. Safety Council, but that's just a best-guess kind of thing.

It could definitely be the case that its not approved yet. There are many who feel that the heads up display may be more distracting rather than less. And knowing the US Congress and government, I wouldn't hold your breath for them to make a final decision on it anytime soon.

How quirky, available on one Lexus model and a Toyota in the US, and available in just about every other market, except for where Lexus is most popular... When did they contract product decisions out to GM? :D;)

HUD appears as a $1200 option on the RX only if you opt for the luxury package. Maybe Lexus didn't want to hurt sales of the RX. My feeling is that it will be available on the NX a year or two after being available on the RX.

The HUD itself isn't a new technology. Mu Aunt's Grand Prix GTX had it more than a decade ago. As with most technology, it too has advanced. The video demonstrating the HUD on the NX's international site, shows it in full color and fine detail. A far cry from the simplistic, dull, monochromatic digital speedometer back then. I Didn't know about Cadillac's offering, but did with the Prius, though I've never actually seen it. The new Stingray also has it as an available option. I agree with each of you, and I expect we'll see it offered in the next few years.

If the HUD option isn't available in the U.S. can I buy it across the border and drive it down? Will it be worth it?
Not directly answering your question about the HUD, but for another reason I was looking at buying a Canadian NX and driving it to my home in the USA....after a couple of weeks of writing various agencies, I determined that not only was the cost too high, so was the hassle of red/orange/amber/ tape I would have to go through.....on both sides of the border.

HUD can be a very good item or a total waste of money. I had it on a BMW X3 and it was almost worthless. I have since seen it on other vehicles where it was done properly. From what I have seen on the Lexus Canadian web site the one that they are getting is not the best. Canadian drivers who have HUD on their NX's correct me if I am wrong.
