I mean already the RX is built in Canada, the only Lexus built outside Japan, and if the NX is going to challenge the RX for the volume lead I would expect that Lexus will be looking to cut overhead...

I would expect Lexus, like any large manufacturer, has studied this as an option. The article mentions the ES350 to be built in the US next year. That may also free-up the Japanese plant to make more NXs. If Lexus does make a move, I think it will be later rather than sooner. Think they may want a few years of Engineering/Production control before changing things.
