I was driving yesterday when a chime started and the word BRAKE came on the small info screen. Had the NX for over a year and never had this come up before. Any ideas.

Probably a good idea for you to take it into your dealership to see what they'll discover since that light more than likely refers to a number of things with the brake system.
Is yours the NX 200t? Nexus had a recall for around 3000 2015 NX 200t due to a faulty brake system part. May be best to bring it in to your dealership just to double check.
