Hello,

I just got my nx300h on Saturday and I am very pleased with it. I just have one question as I am new to hybrid vehicles. Sometimes when I brake, I will hear a air breathing sound and this is freaking me out. It is then followed by the electronic whirring noise. In my Audi A4 I had this problem before where it made that air releasing sound and proceeded for me to lose braking power. Ended up replacing the master cylinder & vacuum pump.

I messaged the dealer and they said it was normal in Hybrid vehicles. Other forums have said it was part of the regenerative brake process. Can someone explain the air releasing sound for me? Other ways to describe it is a fart, an air pump or a hissing sound.

Thank you,:)

Hi all NX owners, Apologies for tagging onto this post subject; but can anyone tell me if the NX Luxury navigation system has an integral Speed Camera warning system, like most satnavs have? Had my new NX s couple of weeks and can't find any specific reference to speed camera recognition!

If your dealer did not tell you how the regenerative braking works here is what I was told when I got my RX400h.
At all speeds above 5 MPH the vehicle is stopped by regenerative braking except in a panic stop. If you go down a long hill resting your foot on the brake pedal will increase the amount of energy that gets stored (this will also drive the vehicle behind you nuts). When you press the brake pedal the electric motor becomes a generator and also acts as the brakes. On the RX the accelerator is also connected to the computer that controls the electric motors and the gas engine. I was told by my dealer that the RX450h is also steer by wire, I do not know if this is the case with the NX.

I find it interesting that Lexus would put software that tells you where speed cameras are. In the US they don't dare, if it missed one they would be sued. If it finds everyone then they would be accused of letting people speed. This puts a manufacturer in a no win situation. If we want traffic camera detection then we need an add on solution. Mine is a Escort Max 2.

One downside to them doing that is it now creates a market for a company to come along and develop technology that doesn't get detected with the level of tech Lexus used, rendering it useless and in the process scoring deals with police forces.
