For the Boomers?

Now the narrative coming out of all these companies is that this current push to smaller luxury vehicles is a result of demand from younger generations, say Gen Y for instance. What if that rhetoric was wrong?

http://www.torquenews.com/1083/why-a...ium-crossovers

Boomers are the biggest mover right now, the current trends are seeing them pile out of large sedans and SUV's into compact sedans and crossovers. Now this may be due to financial constraints as the boomers make up a large chunk of the current middle class so if anyone is going to feel the squeeze its them.

Quote:

Ford studies its customers buying habits and has found that since 2009 retail registrations of its Escape crossover are up 81% in the 55 to 64 year old age group. Ford also discovered that buyers of about half of its highest trim level of the Escape, called the Titanium, are older than 56. Clearly, Ford's older customers are moving in the direction of premium crossovers.

In order to capture these customers, and those that want even more premium content, Ford's Lincoln division is about to release a more fancy version of the Escape called the MKC. Similarly, Lexus is about to launch its new small premium crossover called the NX which will be about the size of the Toyota RAV 4. Both are likely to be big sellers and very profitable for their builders.
So are these new baby crossovers the perfect remedy for an aging population?

Great for the aging population that ****** up the economy by borrowing more than they should have :D

Thank you :D

Hey at least it was at least one of the things that made the industry go this route with more affordable vehicles.

I think that baby boomers do like it because it is cheaper than the larger vehicles they used to be buying, but it is also because they simply don't need that big a vehicle any more. I'm guessing that most of them are starting to have empty nests and might be downsizing as they get older. It seems like the whole market is leaning towards smaller vehicles anyways, not just boomers.

Good points you covered, it's basically why anyone would buy a small, cheap vehicle like this.

This is one of the reasons I'm beginning to lean towards the tought that the NX is going to be styled along the lines of the RX. RX is arguably the best selling luxury SUV ever, that kind of thing carries weight, people want to be unique but only as unique as everyone else. Seeing the RX tooling around everywhere is going to have a psychological effect.

OUU look how cute a little baby of the one John and jane have, lets get it honey....

see how that works :D ;)
