Why isn't the Mark Levinson stereo avail in U.S.?

Has anybody heard why Lexus doesn't offer the Mark Levinson stereo as an option in the U.S. on the NX? I'm guessing it has to do with discouraging canibalism of the RX or keeping the NX at a lower price point.

You may be right - to keep the NX at a lower price point. I remember when i wanted the Mark Levinson upgrade in my RX350. Price increased by a whopping 10k. I thought then, oh what a heck i wanted that ML audio.

That was a huge disappointment for me when i first learned about NX. This is partly why i chose not to wait for NX release and got something else. For me, i spend my life on the road (25k miles / year)...i need a good audio. Now, my understanding is that the 10-speaker audio for NX is pretty good...and i did testdrive RX 350 with that same audio...it was good and easy on the ears, but (for me) lacked dynamic range (if that makes any sense) in the RX.

It might have worked well in their favor to offer different levels of audio systems from this brand, but then again it can be argued that it'll spread their efforts out too thin, still I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra and waiting a bit longer to get an audio system that fits within my budget that my ears find to be good enough.

Yes, to my surprise , the 10-speaker audio is pretty good. That's what I have so I'm happy.

I agree, the upgraded speaker system in our NX F Sport is surprisingly good, but it doesn't quite match the precision of the Mark Levinson in our 2002 ES. I have a new Pioneer Elite surround in my family room and it doesn't compare to the Levinson (I'm sure room/space acoustics are a factor too). I often sit in my ES to listen to the detail in the music. I'm guessing the value of my Levinson is worth more than my trusty old ES. I hear the RC has an 18 speaker Levinson option. It must be the ultimate. Anybody hear it yet?

Dude, stop spreading lies!! RC has only 17 speakers, not 18!

I believe that there are two tier of ML audio. There is ML Premium audio which is what you get in most Lexus as an option. Then, there is the ML REFERENCE audio which you can find in the top end Lexus (LX and LS). The Reference is really really good! I have listened to that in the LS. ML Premium is excellent as well. You just cannot go wrong with ML. Thus, this was a huge disappointment for me that NX does not come with it even as an option. I would gladly pay for it.

I am not out of the NX possibility yet...my wife needs SUV in next year or so...and she thinks my MDX is way too darn big...she wants NX. So, hopefully, by that time, Lexus would offer ML. Then, i can sneak into her car to enjoy it!

I don't see why they wouldn't offer the upgraded sound system just because it costs a lot. It would be an option so its not like they would be forced into buying it for a higher price. It could be the idea of not trying to cannibalize the RX. Do you think that people would choose to go with the RX with the upgraded stereo system just because the NX doesn't offer that?

Hopefully they'll offer it by then, for now, all we can do is make some noise in case Lexus is listening and want to apply what we have to say that sounds viable
